Over 1,400 students participate on 67 different athletic teams.  San Clemente Triton athletic teams are top contenders in the competitive Coast View Athletic Association of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).  San Clemente is consistently ranked among the top overall athletic programs in Orange County and the CIF-SS!  Last year (14-15), out of the 26 varsity sports that were offered, the Tritons achieved eleven (11) League Championships including girls’ basketball, softball, girls’ surfing, girls’ tennis, girls’ volleyball, baseball, boys’ basketball, football, boys' surfing, boys’ tennis, and boys’ track and field; 24 of 24 CIF-SS varsity teams qualified for the playoffs!  Over the past twelve (12) years, the Tritons have won eighteen (18) CIF Championships (five in girls’ basketball, five in girls’ soccer, three in wrestling, two in boys’ soccer), three (3) State Championships (one in boys’ soccer, one in girls’ soccer, one in girls’ cross country) and seven (7) National Championships (in surfing).  In 2015, our Football, Girls’ Water Polo, and Boys’ Tennis teams were all CIF Finalists; Sam Darnold was the Orange County Athlete-of-the-Year; Kolby Allard was a 1st round draft pick for the Atlanta Braves; his battery mate Lucas Herbert was a 2nd round draft pick for the Atlanta Braves (yes, you read that correctly) – simply amazing; and, twenty-seven (27) of our graduating seniors signed National Letter of Intents to continue their athletic careers at the four-year level.  And finally, probably the most important statistic, many of our varsity athletic teams continue to meet the criteria for Academic Distinction Recognition from the California Interscholastic Federation.
