Meetings will be held once or twice a month during lunch and NHS members are required to attend. In addition, NHS members will actively participate during the service projects held outside of school hours. Requirements regarding attendance at meetings and active participation during the school service projects can be found in the Bylaws.

A meeting calendar is posted on the SCHS NHS webpage. CLICK HERE

Students eligible and interested in membership to NHS, must complete the application form found on the NHS webpage. For the 2018-2019 school year, this form is due by the end of lunch, Friday, September 28, 2018 to Mr. Proodian in room 501. The application requires students to list their activities both inside and outside of school, identify the offices they hold, include the community service projects in grades 9-11 they have completed, and report their work experiences. Candidates must obtain proper signatures for the application. In addition to the application, students must submit their transcript and a cover letter. The purpose of the cover letter is to provide students the opportunity to expand on qualifications that may not be apparent from the objective list of activities. A faculty council composed of five staff members as well as the NHS advisor (a non-voting member) review the applications and determine the final selection of students. For the 2018-19 school year, students can expect to receive a letter in the mail with the final selection no later than November 1st, 2018

Once selected and inducted (in a ceremony that takes place in November each year), National Honor Society members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate the qualities of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. By applying for NHS, students give their consent to follow the bylaws of the SCHS Chapter. The bylaws are viewable on the SCHS NHS webpage. Members who fall below the academic and behavioral standards that were the basis for selection shall be promptly warned in writing by the chapter advisor and given a reasonable amount of time to correct the deficiency. A request for consideration for dismissal proceedings will be sent to the Faculty Council if the deficiency is not corrected. In the case of flagrant offenses of school rules or civil laws, a member does not necessarily have to be warned. In all cases of consideration for impending dismissal, a member shall have the right to a hearing before the faculty council and/or the school principal. There will be a zero tolerance policy for alcohol, drugs, and violations of the SCHS Academic Integrity Code.

If students are unable to view the SCHS NHS webpage and/or have further questions, they may see Mr. Proodian in room 501.
